Juggling several balances, due dates, and minimum payments is exhausting. If you’re looking into SoFi debt consolidation, or a personal loan to cover one big expense, there’s a referral offer that could put some money back in your pocket. Here’s the plain-English version of how it works.
Disclosure: the links on this page are my personal referral links. If you sign up through them I may receive a reward, and the offer may give you a bonus too. This is not financial advice.

What is SoFi Personal Loans?
SoFi Personal Loans is a personal loan product from SoFi. In simple terms, you borrow a lump sum and pay it back over time. People commonly use loans like this to pay off several debts with one loan, or to cover a major expense. Whether it makes sense for you depends on your own numbers, so check the rate, fees, and repayment terms on the official page before you apply.
My experience: consolidating my credit cards with SoFi
I’m not just passing along a link. I took out a SoFi personal loan myself to consolidate my credit card debt, and I’m paying it off now.
Some of my credit cards were charging as much as 25% APR. My SoFi personal loan came in at 14% APR, so that debt now sits at a much lower rate, with one loan payment instead of several card balances. I’m very happy with the loan, and I was glad SoFi approved me.
I also have SoFi Checking & Savings, which makes the day-to-day side simple. I can easily move money in and out of those accounts, and I make my loan payment directly from them, so everything stays in one place.
Your rate will likely be different. SoFi sets rates based on your credit and other factors, so my 14% isn’t a promise of what you’ll be offered, and approval isn’t guaranteed. Check your own rate and the full terms on SoFi’s site before you decide.
The referral reward: what you actually get
Here’s the offer, with nothing added:
- The referral pays $300 to each side after the loan funds.
- You must keep the loan active and in good standing for at least 90 days to receive the $300 bonus.
- The offer isn’t available to residents of Vermont.
That means $300 for you and $300 for me, the person who referred you. The key phrases are after the loan funds and 90 days in good standing. Clicking the link or submitting an application isn’t enough. The loan has to actually fund, and then stay active and current for at least 90 days.
On its referral page, SoFi also advertises no required fees, fixed rates, and same-day funding, and says that viewing your rate won’t affect your credit score. Those are SoFi’s claims and conditions apply, so read the full terms on SoFi’s page.
How the referral works, step by step
- Open the referral link. Use the SoFi Personal Loans invite page so the referral is tied to your application.
- Read the current terms. Offers can change, so the official SoFi Personal Loans page is the source of truth for the latest details.
- Check your rate. SoFi says viewing your rate won’t affect your credit score, so you can see your offer before committing.
- Apply for a loan. Approval isn’t guaranteed, and the terms you’re offered are up to SoFi.
- Decide if the loan works for you. You’re never obligated to accept. If the numbers don’t fit your budget, walking away is a fine outcome.
- The loan funds, then stays in good standing for 90 days. After that, the $300 referral reward applies to each side.
Who this offer suits
The offer is a good fit if you’re already planning to borrow. For example:
- You want to look at SoFi debt consolidation to combine multiple debts into a single loan with one payment.
- You have a major expense coming up and have decided a personal loan is the way to cover it.
- You’re comparing lenders and want to know if a referral bonus comes with this one.
In each case, the loan comes first and the bonus is a nice extra. A $300 reward is good, but it shouldn’t be the reason you borrow.
Who should skip it
- Anyone who doesn’t need a loan. Borrowing carries real risk, and you have to pay the money back. Don’t take on debt just to collect a bonus.
- Anyone unsure they can handle the payments. A loan adds a monthly obligation to your budget.
- Anyone who might run balances back up. Consolidating moves debt around. It doesn’t erase it.
- Vermont residents. The referral offer isn’t available in Vermont.
- Anyone who hasn’t read the terms. Check the rate, fees, and eligibility requirements on the official page first.
Honest bottom line
For me, moving my credit card balances to a lower-rate SoFi loan was worth it. That said, this isn’t free money. It’s a $300-to-each-side reward that’s paid only after a loan funds and stays in good standing for 90 days, and the loan itself is the real financial decision. I’m not telling you what to do with your money. If you’re already weighing SoFi debt consolidation or a loan for a big expense, the referral is a simple way to see if you can earn a bonus along the way. Terms can change, so confirm everything on the official page.
