HP OmniBook 3 17 Review: A Practical HP Computer I Own

If you’re shopping for an everyday HP computer and trying to figure out whether a mid-range laptop is enough, I can give you a real answer. I own the HP OmniBook 3 17-df0xxx, and this article is about one thing: the specific combination of Intel Core Ultra 5, 16GB of RAM, and a 512GB SSD that’s inside mine.

Why I Chose This HP Computer Over Dell and Others

I compared HP against Dell and a few other brands before buying. The OmniBook 3 won for me, and I love it for the price I paid. I’m not going to quote a price here, since those change, but the value was what sealed it.

The Spec Combo in Focus: Core Ultra 5, 16GB, 512GB

Here’s what’s in my laptop:

  • Processor: Intel Core Ultra 5 (6-core)
  • Memory: 16GB RAM
  • Storage: 512GB SSD

In my experience, that mix handles everyday multitasking, business work, and content creation smoothly. It’s a balanced setup, with no single part that feels like an afterthought.

Who This Setup Is For

  • Small business owners who need a dependable machine for day-to-day work.
  • Everyday shoppers who want one laptop for work, browsing, and general use.
  • Light-to-moderate content creators who want a capable laptop without paying for extras.
  • People who already own a desktop for heavy graphics work, like me.

What to Look For Before You Buy

  1. Confirm the configuration. Specs can vary between listings, so check that the processor, RAM, and storage on the page match what you want.
  2. Decide on graphics up front. Mine doesn’t have a dedicated GPU. If you need one, make sure the model you pick has it.
  3. Think about your storage habits. 512GB suits my needs. If you keep a lot of large files on your laptop, factor that in.

What It Does Well

For my everyday and business use, it just works. Multitasking feels smooth, and content creation tasks haven’t given me trouble. The 16GB of RAM paired with the Core Ultra 5 gives it enough headroom for normal work without feeling stretched.

Honest Limitations

My one regret is that I wish I had gotten a model with a dedicated GPU. It hasn’t been a problem for me, because I have a desktop for GPU-heavy work. But if a laptop is going to be your only computer and you expect to lean on graphics power, that’s a real gap. Think it through before you commit to this version.

Who Should Skip It

  • Anyone who needs a dedicated GPU in their only machine.
  • Anyone whose main goal is graphics-intensive work on a laptop.

If that’s you, look at models with a dedicated GPU instead. You can browse more of my write-ups in all product reviews as you narrow things down.

Bottom Line

For a general-purpose, business-friendly laptop, the OmniBook 3 with Core Ultra 5, 16GB RAM, and a 512GB SSD has been a good buy for me. It’s not the machine for heavy GPU work, but that’s a tradeoff I knew about, and my desktop covers it.

If that sounds like your situation, see it on HP and check the current configurations for yourself.
